Kingston, Jamaica – The Jamaica Lacrosse Association (JLA) is happy to announce the details surrounding the 2nd annual Taino and Maroon Cup high school lacrosse championships for boys and girls. The first round of competition kicks off at Hillel Academy on Saturday, February 11th, games will take place from 1:00 – 5:00 PM. The second week of competition features the start of the play-off rounds and is being held at St. George’s College on February 18th from 1:00 – 5:00 PM. The Championship and consolation round of games will be hosted by Wolmer’s School for Girls on February 24th from 2:00 – 5:00 PM.
“The excitement surrounding the second year of these competitions is incredible,” says JLA President, Calbert Hutchinson. “We have 14 teams participating this year. Interest and participation, along with the quality of play are up significantly from last year. We are working hard to create a High School lacrosse atmosphere that inspires and fuels the competitive eta-i.org/ambien.html spirit of all the young student-athletes that have started to play lacrosse in Jamaica.”
St. George’s College and St. Hugh’s are the defending champions but will have some stiff competition in their upcoming matches as the number of high schools lacrosse teams has more than doubled in the past year. Schools competing in this year’s competition include; Alpha Academy (girls), Calabar, Campion (boys and girls), Hillel (boys and girls), Excelsior (boys and girls), Jamaica College, Kingston College, St. Hugh’s, St. George’s and Wolmers (boys and girls).
